Abstract：When manufacturing the titanium and titanium bar and rod, we need to heat them frequently in an electric furnace. Thus, the surface of the bar can quickly form a hard layer . The layer is made of titanium dioxide andα-layer. The layer is harmful to titanium material mechanical properties and usage, so it should be grounded or peeled off. Technicians can draw up the reasonable grounding or turning process if they know the relationship among the heating temperature, heating time and theα-layer thickness. It is very important to reduce products cost and increase processing efficiency. After determining the α-layer thickness of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy bars with metallographical testing method and by checking the testing data according to the proliferation formula theory, this paper discussed the relationship among the heating temperature, heating time and theα-layer thickness. Then the author gets the following result: The α-layer thickness is less than 0.15mm when the final products are heated.
